December, 2015 - Darrell Causey, a long-time UFCW Local 1518 member, Shop Steward, Executive Board Vice-President, Union Representative, and all-around good guy was honoured with the Labour Community Service award at the United Way’s Labour Appreciation dinner on December 3.
Sponsored by the New Westminster and District Labour Council, the award recognizes Darrell’s commitment over many years as a volunteer in countless community events.
“I recognize the benefits my family and I have as a result of belonging to a union,” says Darrell. “Everyone deserves these benefits regardless of their affiliation…we need to give back to our communities and help the less fortunate.”
Twenty years ago, Darrell witnessed employees being mistreated and subjected to unfair processes in his workplace. It was then that he started volunteering for union-sponsored community events. Since then, in addition to his role as a union activist, Darrell has also served as a volunteer for Protein for People and previously as a Board Director of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (BC/Yukon region).
Congratulations for making a difference, Darrell!
