December 21, 2015
To: Members of the CLC Canadian Council and Labour Councils
On Monday December 21, 2015, the Minister of National Revenue announced that she has waived Bill C-377’s reporting requirements for unions and labour trusts.
Bill C-377 became law in June 2015, and reporting requirements would have applied to labour organizations beginning as early as December 31, 2015.
Minister Lebouthillier’s waiver ensures that unions and other stakeholders affected by the Bill will not be required to develop and submit detailed tracking of their activities to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
We expect that early in the New Year, the Liberal Government will bring forward the necessary legislation to repeal Bill C-377. We will update you as we learn more about the Government’s legislative timeline.
