SupportHAITI

In times of great hardship and need, the labour movement shows the meaning of solidarity and mobilizes to bring support to workers, their families and their communities.

We have all watched with horror the images of the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti. Emergency relief to aid the victims is essential and we know Canada's union members will respond with the same generosity and solidarity as you have in the past.

The Canadian Labour Congress, in cooperation with the Canadian Red Cross, is working to provide an easy way for union members to make a donation to help the victims of the devastating earthquake, instantly receive a tax receipt and, at the same time, ensure that your donation is matched by the federal government's pledge to match individual donations dollar for dollar.

From now until February 12, 2010 you can make a secure donation by clicking here.

Union members in Canada have a proud tradition of helping those in need. Workers in Haiti, their families and their communities need our solidarity, and our help.

In Solidarity,
Ken Georgetti, President

** Update February 5, 2010**

Canadian union members have once again shown the meaning of solidarity with our Brothers and Sisters around the world.

Since the terrible earthquake in Haiti in January, unions and their members have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to relief and reconstruction efforts.

The Canadian Labour Congress has pledged $25,000 to the Red Cross and to the Humanitarian Coalition. The CLC's affiliates have also donated thousands of dollars and encouraged their members to also donate. In an amazing response to our appeal for individual donations to the Red Cross, to date over $23,000 has been donated by union members through the CLC's Red Cross portal.

With only one week to go to qualify for matching federal funds for individual donations, help us in a final push to get over $50,000. With matching federal funds, that would mean $100,000 to Red Cross relief projects in Haiti.

Send this message to your union friends and colleagues and ask them to donate if they have not already.

Union members in Canada have a proud tradition of helping those in need. Workers in Haiti, their families and their communities need our solidarity, and our help.

In Solidarity,
Ken Georgetti, President
