The Canadian Labour Congress is hosting the World Congress of the International Trade Union Confederation at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre from June 20 – 25, 2010. The ITUC is the world trade union body to which the CLC is affiliated, and the successor to the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), our historical world affiliation. The CLC is very proud to be hosting this prestigious Congress. Its theme is “Now the People – From the Crisis to Global Justice”. The World Congress will have approximately 1200 delegates from around the world, plus several hundred observers. Official translation will be in eight languages, with supplemental translation into five more – a total of thirteen. Dozens of volunteers are needed to help in a number of areas, including: • Airport Welcoming Committees Delegates will begin arriving arriving on June 19/20, the weekend prior to Convention, and volunteers will be needed to greet and help direct ITUC delegates to shuttle busses running to the Convention hotels. • Preparing Convention Kits Volunteers must be willing to spend part of Sunday June 20th, assisting ITUC staff to pack their kits at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre. • Convention Administration Assistance Volunteers are needed to help distribute documents on the convention floor, or to perform Sergeant-at-Arms functions. • Marshalls To assist with a public demonstration taking place on June 23rd that will be part of the proceedings. Marshalls are needed from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. All volunteers will receive invitations to attend the CLC-hosted Social on Monday June 21st, and the ITUC reception on Tuesday June 22nd.
